Design Commissions
In October 2023 I was commissioned to create the flyer for the Zika Farm Farmer's Market, a community arts event featuring over 50 vendors. For the primary flyer I created an in-depth illustration with a focus on telling a story about the legacy of the event and the space it's hosted in. I then played off of a video-game aesthetic by choosing blockier, retro fonts. These flyers were designed for and promoted on an Instagram account with over 6,800 followers.
Working with a team of theatre educators and the St. Paul's Communications department, I storyboarded initial ideas with a focus group based off of their frustration with previous methods of show promotion. In earlier years, promotions were too scattered and confusing for audiences to engage with in a collected format. There was a need for a graphic with a more cohesive appearance, while still maintaining the individuality of each show.
Using a unified color palette with simplistic, yet bold graphics, I was able to present a deliverable that not only solved their branding problem, but could serve as a template for years to come.
For the 2023 St. Paul's Student Work In Progress show, I was tasked with creating a short promo animation that would both act as a promotional piece and draw attention to the show in-person. I decided on a quick-moving sequence that cycled through various media of art that would be in the show such as painting, photography, and digital design. The final zoom reveals a "work-in-progress" design happening within Photoshop, a nod to the theme of the art show.
All assets were designed from scratch using a combination of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, and compiled within Adobe Animate.
For the Art Department's first major juried art show, I was commissioned to create an eye-catching flyer that utilized student artwork. Recognizing the potential depth contained within the layers of this student-created portrait with flowers, I designed a background that mimicked the layers and folds of flower petals. I chose a font that contained enough structure to be clearly legible, while also having enough variation in the letters to match the spirit of a student exhibition. This design was widely distributed in promotion of the event, both on campus and to various constituents, as well as through social media.
Above are select examples of designs I created for the Loyola Blakefield Annual Student Art Exhibition. These designs were used for both in-person flyer distribution and social media promotion. Each year I strove to develop a design that was influenced by various art styles such as Art Deco and Mid-Century Modern design, using eye-catching colors to provide the necessary emphasis warranted by this event.
In September of 2022 I was commissioned to create the flyer for the Zika Farm Farmer's Market, a community arts event featuring over 50 vendors. For the primary flyer I utilized graffiti imagery, color inversions, and filtered noise to create a collaged feel synonymous with this DIY space. Legibility was prioritized in the secondary flyer, maintaining the original aesthetic while opting for a subdued background with a reduced opacity, and a subtle border to organize the information. These flyers were designed for and promoted on an Instagram account with over 6,800 followers.
I was commissioned to design the covers for two album releases of Boston/NYC based indie-rock band Tuxis Giant. On Goldie, I worked collaboratively with an illustrator who provided the text in response to my imagery. For the Here Comes the Wolf design, I went with a minimalist approach that mirrored the album's sense of quiet space.
I wanted this tour flyer to mimic the mood of the designs I had made for Tuxis Giant's albums. I chose a long-exposure photograph I made, leaning into the analogue feel through noise and halftone filters. The choice of a clean serif font with a slight gradient creates a contrast that explores contemporary design trends within a timeless aesthetic.
